VE Day 75

75th Anniversary of Victory in Europe Day

  • VE Day, commemorates the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany to the Allied forces in 1945, ending World War II in Europe. Although we cannot celebrate in the same way that we may have planned, we can still mark the occasion during this period of social distancing.

On Friday 8th May

  • stand for 2 minutes silence at 11 am and
  • at 2.55 pm the last post on the bugle will be broadcast and tune into Winston Churchill’s historic 1945 speech at 3pm. Stand to mark the occasion and “undertake the Nation’s Toast to the Heroes of WW II, using the following words. “TO THOSE WHO GAVE SO MUCH, WE THANK YOU”.

Use this unique opportunity to pay tribute to the many millions at home and abroad that gave so much to ensure we can all enjoy the freedom we share today. Full programme of events at www.veday75.org

If you’re having a socially distanced street party, and are looking for decorations—look no further! We’ve designed our very own for-get-me-not and primrose bunting. Please feel free to print it out and string it up.

FORGET-ME-NOT AND PRIMROSE FLAGS AND BUNTING

This Union Jack has been constructed from photographs of primroses and forget-me-nots from spring photos of our garden. We particularly wanted to use forget-me-nots. You can get A4 printable versions of these below. Please feel free to print off and circulate for private use.
